Draws and winners

Every prize is drawn in the open. Here is each draw, who won, and what you need to check it yourself.

How a draw works

  1. We freeze the list of players and their tickets. Its fingerprint is saved, so the list cannot be changed afterwards.
  2. At the same moment the draw is tied to a future round of drand, a public source of random numbers run by independent organisations. Nobody, including us, can know or choose its value in advance.
  3. When that round is published, about half a minute later, its value picks the winning ticket.

The calculation

Take the round's randomness as bytes, followed by the draw id as text, and compute SHA-256. Read the first 15 hexadecimal digits as a number, take the remainder after dividing by the number of tickets, and add 1. That is the winning ticket. Tickets are numbered in order of the players' account ids.
